Look out America! The 2016 Mazda CX-3 is on its way.

Mazda released its small SUV crossover, the CX-3, in late February to the Japanese market, and North America is soon to follow.

Made at the company’s Hiroshima plant, the 2016 CX-3 will be released to the Australian market by the end of March and then Europe before debuting in North American showrooms mid-2015.

The powertrain offered to the American market will feature a 2.0-liter Skyactiv gasoline engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission capable of 155 hp. In the Japanese market, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 features a 1.5-liter diesel engine due to the hot-selling offerings of the brand’s other diesel segments. However, that option will not be available to the US market. “In America, it will be only gasoline,” said Mazda chief engineer Michio Tomiyama. But a diesel alternative might be coming in the near future as Mazda engineers work to fine tune the engine to meet US emissions standards while maintaining the driving sensation and torque of gasoline power.
