Now that it’s fall, it’s finally time to start carving pumpkins! Head to your local pumpkin patch, pick out your favorite squash, and then check out this pumpkin carving safety tips, before you get started:

  • First off, never allow children to carve pumpkins unattended by an adult.
  • Consider purchasing some high-quality carving tools, which are less likely to cause accidents.
  • Be sure that the area you carve in is well-lit, clean, and easy to maneuver around in while you are carving.
  • Check out some pumpkin carving tutorials online, if you’re unfamiliar with the process, to be sure you’re approaching everything correctly.
  • Never point the carving utensil towards the spot on the pumpkin where your hand is supporting it.
  • Go slowly, as you are much more likely to slip and make a painful mistake if you carve quickly.
  • Keep a first aid kit nearby – just in case!
