Fall Sights in Illinois You’ll Never Forget

fall sights in Illinois

The United States has one of the most diverse and beautiful natural autumn shows in the world. Across the country, there are thousands upon thousands of breathtaking locations to see amazing fall colors, and the good ol’ Midwest is home to not just a few, meaning you don’t have to travel way up north or all the way to New England to see some unforgettable fall foliage. There are plenty of stunning fall sights in Illinois that are perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

For some of the most dramatic views in the Midwest, check out the Garden of the Gods in Karbers Ridge, IL. With out-of-this-world rock formations (and with strange and spooky titles like “The Devil’s Smoke Stack”), you might feel like you’ve crash-landed on an Earth-like alien planet. The Garden of the Gods is the perfect place to visit for a Halloween-themed hike.

If you’d rather head into the city, the always-free Lincoln Park Zoo in downtown Chicago celebrates the season with their annual, family-fun Fall Fest. This event is great for the kids, with cool activities like a pumpkin patch, a burlap sack slide, Ferris wheel, hay mountain and hay maze, and much more.

But, if you’re definitely looking for a natural fall experience, there are almost too many fall sights to see in Illinois. You can use this national map to see when you’re location is at its peak time for fall colors. Wherever you go, you’re destined to have an awesome-autumn time!
