Mazda Raceway in Leguna Seca

Mazda strengthened its already robust relationship with speed in the first few weeks of September as it hosted the final race of the Pirelli World Challenge at the Mazda Raceway in Leguna Seca, California.

Mazda racers had the lead (and the home field advantage) by 21 points going into the final race in Leguna Seca. The title – and the $1 million Mazda Scholarship – was ultimately taken by the American racer Spencer Pigot of Juncos Racing. The Mazda Scholarship not only comes with this hefty purse, but also grants Pigot access to three Verizon IndyCar Series events. What does this mean? It means magic happened at the Mazda Raceway in Leguna Seca; it means Pigot is going to race in the historic 100th Indianapolis 500.

So, a Mazda racer did not ultimately come out on top in the final race of the Pirelli World Challenge, but Mazda racing’s place in the elite, international racing world is as solid as ever. As always, you’ve got to watch out for Mazda Motorsports.
