Top 5 Best Roadtrip Songs for Holiday Travels

Published by under Driving Tips,Road Trip

best roadtrip songs

Traveling to see family over the holidays? You might be dreading the miles and miles of open road ahead of you on your journey, but one of the perks of the job is making that roadtrip playlist. Here’s some of the best roadtrip songs to add to the mix, complete with car-themed puns.

Hit the Road, Jack – Ray Charles

Okay, so while you can’t really heed Ray’s advice to not “come back no more,” you can start off your journey by hitting the road to this classic rhythm and blues track.

Shut Up and Drive – Rihanna

The younger ones in your car might actually recognize this one. Rihanna’s pop vocals appeal to everyone in the vehicle to just shut up and drive, which makes it excellent for parents who just want to play the quiet game.

Highway to Hell – AC/DC

We’ve all been there—the middle of your trip, when it feels like you’ve been driving forever but you still have so long to go. Get over that midpoint disappointment by jamming out to some classic rock.

No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn – Beastie Boys

Raise your morale with this loud party anthem that’s easy to shout along with.

Born to Be Wild – Steppenwolf

Is there anything as iconic as that deep, thumping beat and that opening line—“get your motor runnin’/head out on the highway”? Born to Be Wild makes you feel adventurous and cool when you’re behind the wheel, making it one of the best road-trip songs for your holiday travels.

If you want to know whether your sound system is in working order to play your best roadtrip songs, or you need any other vehicle maintenance, just stop in at Sierra Mazda first and we’ll take care of you!

Halloween Gathering Festival and Parade in Chicago

Halloween Gathering Festival and Parade

The Halloween Gathering Festival and Parade in Chicago launched for the first time last year, organized by the Chicago Cultural Mile Association and gathering a wide range of creative communities in Chicago including the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Silent Theater Company, and more.

The Halloween Gathering Festival and Parade starts with an afternoon festival where artists from all over put on performances, show art, and play music. Then, in the evening, a huge parade is held along the Chicago Cultural Mile. If you want to see what the Halloween Gathering looked like last year, check out the video on the CCM website recapping last year’s event.

The goal of the festival is not just to create a fun Halloween event but to bring to light artists who have animated the city of Chicago, celebrate the vast array of cultures and kinds of art present in Chicago, and recognize Halloween as the “artist’s holiday.” As the festival’s website says, Halloween is the day when we “don masks and costumes, wrestle with demons, grapple with morality, play with personas, and watch darkness unfold and light fade.”

The festival will take place from 2 to 5 in the afternoon in Millennium Park and Sir George Solti Garden on Saturday October 22, with the parade taking place that evening 6 to 8 along Columbus Dr. from Balbo St. to Monroe St. Both events are free and open to the public. You can find information on how to get involved or sponsor the event on the Chicago Cultural Mile website.

2016 Mazda CX-9 Test Drive: Spacious and Fun

Published by under Mazda CX-9

2016 Mazda CX-9 test driveNews writer Gary Gastelu wrote an article in September detailing his 2016 Mazda CX-9 test drive, where he acknowledges that the CX-9 is a “three-row Miata,” offering “a bright spot of fun” in the mid-size crossover segment.

This seems to be the general consensus about the all-new CX-9. Its rating on Car and Driver is 5 stars, which is pretty amazing, and C&D’s first drive review of the CX-9 praised its ability to maintain functionality and interior space while offering the most stylish and elegant vehicle in its class.

Car and Driver says the CX-9 looks like a luxury vehicle, putting luxury cars in its segment like the Infiniti QX60 to shame, and its interior uses the finest materials, with plastics so soft they feel like leather. Optional all-wheel drive and standard features like LED headlights, a backup camera, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Mazda Connect make the CX-9 one of the most feature-complete SUVs on the market.

The Mazda CX-9 sports a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine where most in its segment have a V6, giving it 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm, which Mazda says is where owners driving crossovers usually stay at anyway, so there isn’t a need for a more powerful V6 engine at 4500 rpm.

Finally, the CX-9 has class-leading fuel economy, with max highway mpg at 28. Mazda has even included a cooler that helps cool the engine without using additional fuel, making it the most innovative crossover on the market in terms of improving efficiency.

In many ways the CX-9 offers the very best in its class, so come to Sierra Mazda and take it for a test drive today!

The Best Chicago Drive-ins to Visit in the Fall

Best Chicago Drive-ins to Visit

The leaves are changing, the air is cooling and you just pulled out your trunk of sweaters from the attic. Summer has ended and fall is welcoming us with open arms. But even if pumpkins are in and pool passes are out, there are some traditionally summer activities that you don’t have to kiss goodbye just yet. So, gather up some blankets, pour some hot tea in a travel mug and pack up the car! Here are the best Chicago drive-ins to visit this fall.

Cascade Drive-in

This West Chicago drive-in offers weekend features in rain or shine (that’s top up or down, for you roadster fans). Open since 1961, The Cascade is the largest drive-in in Illinois. They offer concessions (including, of course, Chicago-style hot dogs). They also allow customers to bring in their own outside food (with the exception of anything from Scooby’s Hot Dogs next door, who refuse to dim the lights for the movie-goers’ sakes!). With double features every Friday, Saturday and Sunday into the fall months, the Cascade drive-in makes a great weekend outing.

Harvest Moon Drive-in

Head south from Chicago to Gibson City where you will find Harvest Moon Drive-in. This outdoor theatre was opened in the 1950s, shut down in the 1980s, and then reopened for the love of film. It even survived a tornado (which probably didn’t prevent them from screening “Twister” years later!) Visit Harvest Moon for a movie or two, in rain or shine. Arrive early to grill out and let the kids play on the playground or rent out a lawn game like cornhole from the Tiki Hut. Want extra bang for your buck? Visit on select weeks in September to participate in the 5th annual Fright Fest for Halloween themed double features, costume contests and more.

If you’re in the mood for some spooky good prices and friendly people, come on down to Sierra Mazda today for a new ride!

Three Fall Road Trips to Take in your Mazda MX-5

Fall road trips

The best way to enjoy any season is to give yourself the time to take it all in. Autumn offers changing colors, cooler weather and the scent of harvest. Get the most of this season by choosing from one of these fall road trips to take in your Mazda MX-5, ordered from shortest to longest.

Drive the Red-Arrow Highway in Michigan

For a quick jaunt into the afternoon sun, Midwestern sightseers can’t go wrong with the Red-Arrow Highway. The two-lane, tree-lined road curves along the southeastern edge of Lake Michigan. Bring a sweater and drive with your Mazda’s top down in the autumn sun, enjoying the changing colors of the foliage. Red-Arrow Highway will lead you to plenty of inviting beach towns along the way and straight to one popular vacation spot, Harbor Country, Michigan.

Cruise the Great River Road

It’s true, the Great River Road runs all the way from Minnesota to Louisiana, following the Mississippi River. For your fall road trip in your Mazda MX-5, you don’t have to be quite so ambitious (though by the time you reach New Orleans, you’ll certainly have the top down!). But, even if you stick to the Illinois portion of the Great River Road, you won’t be disappointed. Hop on at Fulton or Moline to see breathtaking views, state historic sites—even Popeye’s home in Chester, IL!

Make the Trek to Yellowstone

If it’s one-on-one time with your co-pilot (or your Mazda MX-5!) that you want, take a handful of days to make your way to Yellowstone National Park. This trip will give you over 20 hours of driving time, which is more than enough to enjoy the “road” part of a road trip. Plus, what can be more American than heading out west in your roadster? Take I-90 and make a pitstop at the Badlands or the Black Hills for extra sightseeing.

No matter where you’re going on your last big trip of the end of summer, stop in at Sierra Mazda to get your car road-ready first!
