Toyota-Mazda Partnership Helps Create New Autonomous Vehicle Concept

Published by under Mazda News

Future Project.

It looks like Mazda’s popular rotary engine will come back to the industry. The Japanese automaker recently announced that it is joining forces with Toyota-Mazda partnership to develop a range-extending rotary engine for use in a shared future project — the e-Palette Concept.

This concept, which Toyota revealed earlier this year at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is a battery-electric vehicle prototype that drives itself. With Mazda’s rotary engine, Toyota hopes to extend the e-Palette’s range.

More Information To Come.

There is little information out there about Mazda’s role in this Toyota-Mazda partnership, but Toyota’s presentation makes it seem as if this vehicle could be the answer to a lot of transportation needs. It will have an open interior design layout, which means it can be outfitted with an interior that suits the user’s needs, no matter what they are. According to Toyota, the e-Palette Concept will come in three sizes, so consumers can have the right vehicle for them in every way.

Along with Mazda, Toyota is also planning on partnering with Amazon, DiDi, Pizza Hut, and Uber. Each partner will utilize this technology in specific ways to enhance their respective industries. Toyota is predicting that this concept will actually be out on the road in various regions in the early 2020s, which means you could see it in Sierra Mazda showrooms in the next few years.

According to Car and Driver, which gave the CX-5 a five-star rating, this model is the best-driving compact crossover on the road. What exactly does it mean to be the “best-driving” compact crossover? In particular, the editors and experts at Car and Driver noted that the tuned chassis provides responsive steering, the engine is powerful yet efficient, and the six-speed transmission is smooth. The 2018 CX-5 handling is simply unparalleled.

Enjoyable ride.

“Distinctive styling and engaging driving dynamics separate the CX-5 from the competition,” writes Eric Stafford of Car and Driver. “The pièce de résistance is a phenomenal chassis that combines precise steering with refined road manners.” In other words, the CX-5 is one of the few models on the market that is simply enjoyable to drive, yet it also has the latest amenities and intelligent engine options.

Mazda CX-5 Diesel in the Works

Published by under mazda concept,Mazda CX-5

Mazda CX-5 Diesel

The Mazda CX-5 is a well-known crossover. It’s obvious as to why. With its distinctive styling and impressive versatility, it’s hard to beat. It’s going to be even harder to beat now, since the second generation CX-5 is adding a diesel engine.

This engine shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to Mazda lovers, since Mazda prioritizes innovation. The new CX-5 will keep its previous engine—a 2.5-liter direct-injection gas engine—but it’s also adding a 2.2-liter diesel as an option.

Diesel engines have risen in popularity recently due to their increased efficiency. While the word “diesel” sounds hefty, diesel engines actually use less fuel. You can expect the new CX-5’s diesel engine to have an even higher fuel rating than the current CX-5’s 31 highway mpg.*

Diesel engines are also resilient—they tend to last twice as long as gasoline engines. Plus, you don’t have to worry as much about your engine overheating since diesel engines burn fuel more efficiently and therefore, don’t heat up as intensely while operating.

All CX-5 engines, diesel or otherwise, will come equipped with the new SKYACTIV® technology. This technology enhances the functioning of your engine, transmission and suspension to give you more control and stability on the road.

No matter which engine option you choose, the new Mazda CX-5 is sure to impress you. Stop by Sierra Mazda for a test drive.

Fuel Efficiency Hacks to Make the Most of Your Miles

Published by under Driving Tips

fuel efficiency hacks

Gas prices aren’t very reliable, but there are a few fuel efficiency hacks you can follow to guarantee that, no matter what type of vehicle you drive, you’re getting the most “go” out of every gallon of gas you purchase.

  1. Conserve gas by conserving your braking

Braking means accelerating, and accelerating is what really kills your fuel numbers. As you sit in traffic, leave yourself a buffer while all the other cars speed up to go. That way, you can time your forward motion so you coast to a stop instead of braking at the last minute. That will save more gas than you think!

  1. Cars aren’t magical motion machines

It might not seem like your car is doing much as you cruise over flat terrain, but even on easy roads, your vehicle is putting forth a titanic engineering effort that only increases on tougher paths, such as driving up hill. Let your car lose a little speed while you’re driving uphill; the lost MPH will save you MPG.

  1. Make sure your tires are properly inflated

It’s true: if your tires are even a little flat, you’re losing MPG. A tire with proper tire pressure is the best friend of lowered gas consumption.

If you’ve tried those fuel efficiency hacks, and you’re still worried your vehicle is guzzling a little too much gas, maybe it’s time for regular car maintenance. Give the Sierra Mazda service department a call today to schedule a service check-up!

2017 Mazda Miata RF Overview: Smooth-Riding Roadster

2017 Mazda Miata RFThe 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a roadster that brings a stylish design and exceptional handling to the road. The success and critical acclaim that the redesigned roadster earned resulted in the creation of an upscale model designed for those who want a little luxury in their thrill ride. Meet the 2017 Mazda Miata RF, a roadster with attitude.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, which stands for Retractable Fastback, offers a roof made of four parts. The rear part is responsible for holding the roofline that slopes into the trunk. It rises to allow the next two parts of the roof to fall into the convertible well. The rear part then retakes its position to help air flow smoothly. The convertible top is capable of going down in around 13 seconds, depending on the car’s speed.

The 2017 MX-5 Miata RF rolls out with a stunning red paint job and 17-inch black wheels that take this roadster’s athleticism to a new level. An interior full of premium materials and ergonomic controls make it a hard convertible to pass up.

Weighing in at under 2,500 lbs. the roadster’s four-cylinder engine hammers the ground with a peppy 155 horsepower. That’s more than enough for the lightweight roadster to offer a thrilling ride.

At Sierra Mazda, we are excited to see the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF offering more luxury at an affordable price!

New Mazda CX-8 Ready for Japan

Published by under Mazda CX-8,Uncategorized

Crossovers are dominating American roadways, but this isn’t the only country where the segment has seen increasing sales year after year. While Americans are digging the larger crossovers and SUVs, Japan is finding a sweet spot with smaller and mid-size crossovers. This has prompted the new Mazda CX-8 to hit the ground running with an official release in Japan this year.New Mazda CX-8 - Sierra Mazda - Ottawa, IL

The Mazda CX-9 is a little too big for the Japanese market, which is why the CX-8 offers many of the same features, including three rows of seating, in a slightly smaller shell. That sizing sets it just above the Mazda CX-5, which is currently the largest model in the brand’s Japanese lineup.

From what we’ve seen in a teaser photo, the Mazda CX-8’s interior seems to feature premium materials and a sloped roof towards the rear. While the CX-8 and CX-9 have the same wheelbase, the former sits around five inches narrower and an inch lower than the CX-9.

What will power the all-new CX-8 is a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine that delivers 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That same engine will arrive in the United States later this year.

We here at Sierra Mazda hope to see the new Mazda CX-8 arriving on American shores in the near future!
